Our Curriculum

‘Our curriculum gives our pupil’s broad and balanced opportunities to improve their knowledge and skills in preparation for life beyond school.

The curriculum promotes pupils ’academic and personal development and enables pupils to develop their independence to take their next steps with confidence and resilience to cope with their new challenges.’

Structure

In order to meet our pupil needs pupils are placed in a Pathway which allows them to access the appropriate curriculum. Thematic learning is at the heart of our curriculum structure, through our theme we create exciting opportunities for relevant learning across all Pathways.

The aim of this curriculum is to give our pupil’s the opportunity to develop the necessary skills for life through contextualised, practical learning.

Personal Development

Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural experiences, incorporating the British Values are embedded across the curriculum through Assemblies and ‘Thought for the Week’, half termly drop days that focus on areas of Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural experiences, visits to places linked to the thematic learning, community visits and visitors coming to school.

Pupils also have opportunities to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, musical experiences, opportunities to attend work experience, volunteer and attend Outdoor Residential trips to provide support for the all-round personal development of our pupil’s.

Speech and Language

We recognise that our pupil’s need help to enable them to communicate their wants and needs in the most effective way, our Speech and Language Therapy Team support all the communication needs of our pupil’s and work effectively with our teachers to embed this into the pupils everyday learning.
